The term tonsil stones may not ring a bell, but those small, smelly balls lodged inside the tonsil holes are far more common than everybody thinks.
folks aren't extraordinarily vocal about their experience with tonsil stones because, let's face it, having those ugly and stinky stones stuck within your tonsils is not exactly the best topic of conversation. Admitting you have these stones do not really show remarkable strength of character, unlike when you admit to have aids or something else. Exclaiming you have these stones inside your mouth only make folk think about one thing : you are gross. However [*COMMA] 99% of the time, those you hide your odd situation from also have the stones themselves. But just like you, they are simply too ashamed to say they do.
Tonsil stones are basically harmless particles. But those innocently-lodged stones can do a lot of damage to your social life and to your self-esteem. These stones are made up of food bits, bacteria, dead cells from the mouth linings, post nasal drip or mucus, or nose gunk - in brief those safe stones are basically made of junk. No wonder they smell like it. The stones smell like rotten eggs and fecal matter and they are stuck inside your mouth. Result? Naturally you get dragon breath. And what does dragon breath do? It kills both your self-esteem and social life. How does one introduce yourself intimately to people when your breath reeks of the stones' odor? Lucky you can now find solutions for this problem on the Net where you can see a lot of sites devoted to eliminating these stones, because you don't have to live with the humiliation of having those stinky stones.
Some folk experience the appearance of weird, stone-like bits within the folds and holes of their tonsils. These folk know that these bizarre little stones outline the really essence of the word putrid and are simply sickening so they quiver in the depths of privacy and keep the existence of these stones their soiled tiny secret. No pun intended. These people may or may not trouble to analyze on these strange tonsil bits. Except for all of you who are clueless, the small, stinky piles are what you call tonsil stones.
The tonsils are the little, fleshy mounds found on either sides of the throat. They are a part of the immunological reaction and they guard the lungs and digestive system from damaging, foreign material that will get into the body through the nose or mouth. The tonsils have pockets and dimples, which can vary in depth and size from people to people, where countless bits and elements can get stuck. Folk who have history of tonsillitis may have deeper and more countless tonsil holes. These tonsil crevices are where tonsil stones can be discovered.
Tonsil stones are made up largely of food fragments. Little bits of the food we eat get stuck inside tonsil pockets. This, combined with keratin, a strong kind of protein that's also found in hair and nails, nasal mucus and bacteria make up the disgusting concoction. These stones can be removed manually - by scraping them out of the holes, or you can decide to have your tonsils removed utterly. But self-help guides to disposing of these stones can be found, particularly on the Net.
Tonsil stones are not something that you have to live with - there are various treatments to get rid of them, without having your tonsils removed (which can be dangerous as people get older).
my child got infection in her throat, she is taking antibiotics?
can I give her vitamin or I have to wait until she will finish to take the antibiotic?
At home I have gummies multivitami with DHA
few days ago the fever was 104, the pediatrician said she got white pus in her throat, what is that?
Sounds like Strep Throat.
I would wait on the vitamins, you never know what will interfere with antibiotics. Best just to wait.
White pus bump on my left tonsil?
i have this bump on my tonsil it looks white. it doesn’t hurt or anything it has been there for a while. My throat hurts sometimes and my left lymph nodes is swollen. I don’t have anymore medical insurance so i can’t go to the doctor. In November and December I got Strep Throat twice. Has anybody had this same thing happen to them before?
These things are called tonsilloliths (“tonsil stones”). They are typically white or whitish-yellow, irregularly shaped, foul-smelling and usually smaller than a pea. The tissue lining the tonsils (called oral mucosa) is fairly sensitive, so people with this problem often report that they feel an irritation in the back of the throat and are able to pick these critters out of their tonsils.
Like your skin, oral mucosa sheds continuously. The dead cells become incorporated in your saliva and then you swallow them. Yum! One more anatomical fact that you need to know: The surface of your tonsils is pockmarked with deep pits, appropriately called “crypts” (since dead stuff accumulates in these pits). Oral mucosa lines the crypts. As this mucosa sheds, normally the dead cells leave the crypts and are swallowed. In some unlucky people, the dead cells accumulate and glom together to form hard little balls. All of this dead stuff makes great food for bacteria, and all kinds of bacteria normally colonize the mouth. Consequently, the tonsilloliths are ripe with bacteria. This accounts for the smell.
The only sure-fire method for ridding yourself of this problem is to have your tonsils removed (tonsillectomy), but there are nonsurgical alternatives you should certainly pursue before you ask an ear, nose and throat surgeon (ENT) to take out your tonsils:
You could try gargling frequently with warm saltwater (one teaspoon of table salt mixed with one pint of water). Gargle with about 1/4 cup of this mixture three times per day, after meals.
You could also gargle with a mouthwash called Alkalol, which is essentially saltwater combined with a variety of natural aromatic extracts. Some people prefer Alkalol to plain saltwater. Most other commercial mouthwashes contain sugar or alcohol, which are pleasant-tasting but, in the long run, fairly irritating if used frequently.
If you want a more aggressive technique than gargling for clearing out those nasty crypts, a doctor in Los Angeles, Murray Grossan, markets a water-jet device for “hosing down” the tonsils.
Finally, antibiotics might help. In the hopes of avoiding tonsillectomy, I will often put my patient on a long (three- to four-week) course of antibiotics on the chance that this will allow the tonsils to “settle down” (become less inflamed). I must admit that antibiotics are not a very effective cure for this problem.
If I had this problem, I would try all of these things before resorting to a tonsillectomy. You should also discuss your problem with an ENT, since he or she may have other suggestions to help eradicate these nasty critters, and could also give you information on what to expect from a tonsillectomy.
white stuff in the back of my throat?
alrite well for the past week i been having trouble swallowing food or even taking a big bite of something because i feel like im choking i have to eat little by little but even wen i do that i spit a lot practicly all day long i think it might be an infection or something because i feel 6 little pea sized things in my throat and today i checked n i have this white pus lookin stuff in the back of my throat n i dont kno what it is and i have these little white bumps on my tounge but i think thats from the throat and then when i eat sometimes my throat feels like it swells and i have a hard time passin down the food and breathin n thats about it for now with my throat
Sounds like you need to go to the Doctor, when you have an infection your body produces lymph you could have a minor infection; like strep throat. The white part of it, also sounds a little like Thrush. Like I said I’m no doctor and i’m far from being qualified in telling you what you have, but by the sounds of it sounds like it could be those, and they are both cured by antibiotics.
can you have a pus pocket on your tonsil but NOT have strep throat?
I noticed in the bathroom mirror this evening after dinner a small white dot on only one of my tonsils, not too big not too large. I don’t think its food because it won’t seem to dislodge so i think it may be a pus pocket. My throat isn’t sore and i don’t feel sick in the slightest. Can it just be a pus pocket caused by bacteria getting into my mouth and NOT be strep throat? There is only one of them.
Not this question again
Sore Throat/White Pus?
My throat has been bothering me for a few days now and now I have this white pus ball in the back of my throat. Can anyone tell me what this is? How it gets there? And how i can get it to go away? I took some pictures of it if it helps:

sounds like tonsilitis which is a bacterial infection. You will need antibiotics from the doc.
Feels like something is stuck in my throat when I swallow?
For the past 3 days now I’ve had a really bad sore throat with what looks like white pus pockets + and on and off fever. But I woke up this morning and it feels like something is stuck in my throat. It only feels like that when I swallow. Do you think because my throat is swollen so much it makes it feel like something is really stuck?
You could have tonsillitis, go see your doctor. You might need antibiotics.
i have a sore throat, and theres a white bubble on my uvula. what is it?
well on friday I started sneezing and coughing. on sunday I was feeling naseus and puked, Then even day since then when i wake up my throat really hurts.it feels like theres pus back there, and theres also a white sac on the side of my uvula, with a red spot in the back. what is it?
i am afraid you are suffering tonsillitis or pharyngitis . go and check it by your doctor for an appropriate treatment or /and evaluations . you may need a throat swab for a specific antibiotics to be taken .

I’ve had a sore throat for the last couple days and now i have a couple white sores or pus pockets on or in my throat and tonsils. Is it strep throat? or even Mono?

Small white pus nodule in left tonsil?
I just checked my throat as I do and I noticed a little tiny lump of pus lodged in my left tonsil. It is about 3 mm across. small and white. also i notice a sort of metallic taste and a strange feeling on that side of my throat. No symptoms other then the bump, and it’s white and pussy.
Ideas?
the metallic taste in your mouth is iron (from your blood). and this could just be a tonsil stone, leave it alone and if other symptoms form message me as it may be the beginning of streptococcal pharyngitis.
Is it possible to have strep throat or tonsillitis without white pus?
I have had strep throat 3 times in my life (I am 34). I believe I had white pus all those times. However, for the last 3 years, I have had chronic sore throats. Usually they are accompanied by colds, but not always. This time, I have absolutely no cold but a very painful sore throat…red…feels swollen, but no pus. Could I still have tonsillitis or strep throat? I am a teacher, and I have always attributed my sore throat to talking too much…but this comes after a week of spring break. (I’m also concerned because one of my students had strep about two weeks ago).
You can still have strep throat/tonsilitis without pus in the throat.
strep throat question. please help???
i work in a daycare center. and we send a kid home today and she was diagnosed with strep. she was there yesterday and half of today. and she was coughing and sneezing all over me. shes only 2 so she dosent understand to cover her mouth. she also wiped her spit on me. i have no sore throat but i have white pus on both sides of my throat but only like one spot on each side. it makes it feel like something is stuck in there. could this be the first signs of strep??? i’m very worried about it. how long will it take to start showing symptoms of it?
it could be a number of things.
yes, strep is a big possibility…so is mono, oral candida (yeast infection in the mouth) and more extremely, it could be a symptom of leukemia. though i wouldnt go that far.
if the spots on your tonsils are big and puffy (like they look like cottage cheese) then its almost positively oral candida.
otherwise it could be strep or mono. i would go to the doctor just in case its mono, because you dont want to spread that around!!
Cipro or cephalexin for tonsillitis?
I was curious if anyone knew if either of these antibiotics would work in place of penicillin for what i believe to be tonsillitis, sore throat and white pus, no stones just pus and hurts to swallow when it gets too dry. i’ve been gargling salt water, and drinking lemon tea with honey. Anyone know if those medications would work, i have some left over from awhile back
My doctor has always given me cephalexin for strep so i’m guessing that would be your best bet… The only time I ever got Cipro was for a UTI… both kill infections… but I would start with the cephalexin
My throat pain has become too much to handle now.?
Since February I have been suffering from repeating tonsillitis. This is about the 6th time I have had it. I have had 2 throat swabs, one of which came back with a small amount of fungus, probably due to antibiotics.
Medicine just isn’t helping. They refuse to give me a blood test so I can’t check for glandular fever and now the doctors just aren’t helping anymore saying to leave it and it’ll go away.
But the pain is just incredible!!
It hurts so much, more than even. My throat is covered in white pus and it is very red. It hurts so bad when I swallow and I am even having trouble eating. I sometimes find myself crying it hurts so much.
I have exams in a few weeks and I can’t put up with this anymore!
What should I do?
The doctor won’t operate on my tonsils until I’m fre of infection to avoid complications.
Poor excuse if I’m suffering this much tbh…
if you have had tonsillitis for 6 times you are suppose to get them out. I remember a friend telling me that after 5 times your dr. is suppose to have them removed. Go see another dr.
see if they can perscribe you some vicadin or something for the pain. I hope you get better soon.
Sore throat and white bump?
I have a slight sore throat.
Its not too bad, but its still not pleasant.
I took a flashlight to look in my throat and noticed this white bump on the side. I had my tonsils removed over 2years ago. It looks like it could have pus in it but I’m not sure.
Could this be an STD or something?
Looks like staph infection, buy some colloidal silver water. Apply a two drop full under tongue . for several days. you can buy some at http://www.swansons .com
DO I HAVE STREP THROAT ?!?!?!?
) anyway, my throat felt a little scratchy, but not really painful. i looked in my throat and i can see my tonsils, but i can’t see any white pus. my throat is a little red, too. i also have a bit of a head ache and stomach pains, and my tounge is like a whitish sandy colour. i have diabetes, so it could of ben easier to contract this. could i be in the early stages of strep throat ? my throat is feeling a little worse as i type this. THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS ! <3
my little cousin has strep throat and i shared a few drinks with him yesterday (dont worry it was kool aid
White pus on the back of throat?
I have a white pus on the back of my throat (on both sides), it is not on my toncils but further in. Also, i have a terrible taste and smell in my mouth. I dont have a sore troat and no other obvious symptoms. I am going to see a doctor soon, and was just wondering if anyone knows what that could be…..
i don’t have any pain or discomfort in my throat other than an awful taste
It could be strep throat. Also, mono is often misdiagnosed as strep with the white spots on the back of your throat. That is what happened to me. I went to the emergency room where they told me I had strep(I had those same symptoms) a couple days later I had gotten worse and my family doctor diagnosed it as mono. He said that mono actually takes a couple more days to be proven that is is mono, although I forgot his explanation why. just go to the doctor and tell him your symptoms.
Strep throat or meningitis or both?
Hi, just yesterday my doctor diagnosed me with strep throat since there are white pus pockets on my tonsils. Last night, after taking antibiotics and motrin, I started alternating between chills and sweats, my neck became stiff (it still is), I had a fever in my head, neck, back, and chest, my left ankle hurts, my chest and stomach sometimes hurt, my heart sometimes beats really fast, and my arm muscles sometimes become really hot and hurt. My head also sometimes tingles/feels numb. These symptoms still exist. I know that I have strep throat but do I also have meningitis? However, I do not feel nauseous, do not have a rash, and I can touch my chin to my chest, whereas people with meningitis are known to vomit, have a rash, and cannot touch their chin to their chest. Please help! (doctor preferred)
It takes antibiotics around 72 hours to start working in your body. This is probably just a progression of the symptoms of your strep throat since it can give all of the symptoms you describe. You need to also be taking some tylenol or ibuprofen regularly for the fevers/aches/pains while waiting for the antibiotics to kick in.
stiff neck, swollen throat, painful joints and really exhausted?
i woke up this morning in a pool of sweat-(not nice i know) with a MAJORLY stiff neck and swollen throat. there isnt any white pus present on my tonsills but they are rather large and red. my legs keep buckling under me and my legs and arms and ribs are really painfull and achy. i coughed up a dark thick mucus this morning which had some blood in and have vomited twice. im feeling dizzy and giddy and cant get comfortable enough to rest properly!
help.lol.
influenza you caught a flu. eat some heavy stuff and take a calpol and sleep it off for 3 days
unable to find diagnosis?
I’ve been tot the doctor’s multiple times in the past week and they can’t seem to place their finge ron what might be wrong after testing all of the “typical” diseases i might have.
for about a week ive had an extremely sore throat with white pus pockets all over my throat, making it nearly impossible to swallow and eat.
i’m constantly tired and sore, and have an enlarged spleen.
my eyes, although not all of the time appear glosssy and yellow and my face an neck are slightly swollen
and lastly, there was a few days when there seemed to be a larged pocket of fluid surrounding my uvula, blocking the entire back of my throat.
my doctors already checked and i dont have strep or mono, and after prescribing me some steriods the symptoms seemed to fade for a few days but last night i forgot to take one round of my medication and i’m already back to square one.
any ideas what i might have so i can get it checked out? thanks a lot, this is really freaking me out
Ask your doctor.. he wouldn’t give you medication if he didn’t know.! Just keep taking your medication if you truly want to get better.!
I may need a throat culture tomorrow?
I think i may have the start of strep throat, i have a white pus looking bump on the side of my mouth, near or on my tonsils. my mom MIGHT be able to take me tomorrow. i dont have any red swolleness yet, but if shes not able to get me in tomorrow, do u think it could get worse just within another day?
probobly, but not a lot worse. mi doctor wasnt in 4 like 2 days when i had strep, and it really didnt get much worse. keep some throat drops handy tho.
What is this white pus like stuff on the back of my throat?
I woke up two days ago and noticed that when I swallowed my throat hurt in one spot. I got up to go check it out in the mirror & when I did I seen this white pus-like stuff on the back of my throat just in one spot. I am not sick at all and havn’t had any other signs that I may be getting sick. What is this?
It sounds like strep throat. You don’t always feel sick with strep, but it can go on to more serious stuff, like mono or scarlet fever. You should go to the doctor and get a simple strep test and get some antibiotics.
Pus Pockets in throat, fever, aches, very tired?
Thursday morning I woke up with white pus pockets in my throat, fever, aches, and I felt really weak. I had my tonsils removed about 3 years ago and I haven’t really had any problems with my throat since then. I went to the doctor, she didn’t test me for strep or anything and she said I had Hand Foot and Mouth Disease and said there was nothing else to do because its a virus. Well by Saturday it had gotten much worse and I didn’t have any signs of the rash that’s associated with HFMD so I went back to the doctor. She didn’t test for strep but she said she was going to treat it like I have strep and gave me Antibiotics and Pain Pills. My fever has gone down but it still comes back in the evening and my throat still looks the same, actually a little worse and I still feel tired and weak. Does anyone have any idea what else it could be? Should I try going to the doctor again?
As it’s getting worse, I would recommend that’s you go to the ER. It’s possible that it isn’t strep, or that the antibiotic needs a longer dosage. Hope this helps and you’re feeling better!
I need a medical professional’s opinion. I believe I have strep throat, but what about these other symptoms?
I have a VERY swollen throat with redness and patches of white pus. I’m pretty sure it’s strep. I don’t have a fever, just some fatigue. My throat doesn’t hurt, but it feels like I have something caught in my throat. What I am wondering is if it’s possible to have your throat close up from this. It’s becoming more and more difficult for me to swallow and I feel like I’m gagging alot. Please tell me if this warrants a trip to the ER or if I can prolong this for a while. I have a drs appt in 2 weeks.
Sounds like tonsillitis
If strep you would have a very high fever
I still have my tonsils and maybe one time a year I will get the same thing you are talking about
white pus pockets in my throat?
i have had a sore throat on and off for a week, got worse sunday went to Dr’s gave me penicillin, now tuesday and i now have 2 white pus pockets in my throat ,got medicine until thurday ,do i go back to drs, throat still sore,or will the penicillin get rid .?
