White Patches On Tongue

White Patches On Tongue

The antibiotic is referred to any substance produced by micro-organism which is antagonistic to the growth of others in high dilution. Antibiotics are powerful medicines that fight with bacterial infections. Antibiotic are among the most frequently prescribed medications in modern medicines. It cures the diseases by killing or hurting the bacteria.

Selection of antibiotic

Antibiotic is effective against certain bacteria. Antibiotics are useful to fight with wide variety of bacterial infections. It is against viral infections. There are 100 of beneficial antibiotics and some of them are penicillin, cephalexin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, tetracycline, trimethoprim, amoxicillin etc. Most of the antibiotics have two names one is brand name and other is trade name. Each antibiotic is effective only for certain types of infections and your doctor are able to compare your needs with the available medicines.

Unable to fight

Antibiotics are unable to fight with some infections caused by viruses like colds, flu, most coughs, bronchitis, and sore throat and by strap.

Side effects of Antibiotics

Some of the antibiotics have side effects are soft stool or diarrhea. Patient also felt a mild upset of stomach. You can also notify some side effects such as severe watery diarrhea, hives, vomiting, abdominal cramps, white patches on tongue, swallowing of lips and face, shortness of breath and vaginal itching.

Benefits

If you combine the antibiotics, it can be sometimes helpful to treat severe infections. In starting days of problem, when the bacterium's sensitivity to antibiotics is not known it can prove beneficial. Combinations are also important for those infections in which the bacterium rapidly develops resistance to a single antibiotic. Infections caused by more than one bacterium, in which each bacterium is susceptible to a different antibiotic are also treated with a combination of antibiotics.

Misuse of antibiotics

Antibiotics can be sometimes misused and that includes failure to take the entire prescribed course of the antibiotic or failed to rest for sufficient recovery to allow clearance of the infecting organism. These types of practices may facilitate the development of bacterial populations with antibiotic resistance. Common form of antibiotic misuse is inappropriate antibiotic treatment.

White tongue, raised white patch on left side!?
I was recently treated with Levaquin for a sinus infection. Prior to the treatment, I noticed that my tongue is almost always white now. I also noticed that there is a raised white patch on the top left side of my tongue. When I use the tongue scraper my tongue just starts to have this “hairy” look, but the white remains. The raised patch is not bleeding, and does not look like an ulcer, just a raised lump. I know the white tongue is most likely Thrush, but would the raised white patch be part of the thrush? I also have a lot of soreness in my throat, but not when I swallow. It’s just a soreness feeling down the throat. I am just looking for some knowledge here, as everything I read about this states tongue CANCER. Is this accurate?

    • Angela says:

it does sound like it could be some form of cancer, but i wouldnt assume the worst right away. (do you smoke? you didnt say) it could be some sort of irritation from smoke in your mouth. also i think some medications can cause side effects that include symptoms like tounge swelling and discoloration. read the packet of info that should have come with the levaquin and call your doctor asap. hopefully its just a minor side effect or something, goodluck!

What is the relationship between white fungus on tongue and cancer?
I have confirmed that a white fungus patches appeared on my tongue since 3 years. I took medication of oral jelly and tablets but did not go away so far. On the other hand I thought that this fungal appearance might be a symptom of tongue cancer. Please tell me what you know

    • been there says:

have you been tested for thrush? thrush causes white patches on the tongue , call your doctor, if that’s what it is they will give you medication to get rid of it. 3 years is an awful long time to let something like that go.

I have two little white patches on my tongue?
I’ve only smoked a cigarette 3 times in my life. I am 16 years old btw. On the back right side of my tongue, I have two little white patches. They don’t hurt at all. They’re just there. They’ve been there for almost two weeks. I rinse my mouth with mouthwash everyday. I don’t know what it is, and I’m starting to get worried x_x

What are these white patches on my sons tongue?!?!?!?
I noticed that my son (13 months) might have thrush so I did a litte research on the net. I read that only new borns get it and when they are older they can’t get it. I’m pretty worried and I made a docs appointment today but I was just wondering it anyone had anything to add on what might be going on. He acts like he’s fine but I’ve noticed he doesn’t want to really chew (he has 8 teeth) like he usually can. Meal times he’s a little fussy but for the most part he’s acting normal. I brush his teeth everyday. He also drinks soy milk instead of whole milk so could that have something to do with it?????? Please Help!

It could be a form of a yeast infection. Comes from touching his private parts, then putting his hands in his mouth. My daughter had the same thing when she was about 10 months old.

Red and white patches on my tongue?
I have recently tested clean on a full STD panel. My last sexual experience was well outside the testing window… several years.

I have recently tested negative for blood sugar disorders as well.

For over a month, I have been experiencing throat and mouth pain.

My tongue gets these spots along the edge and at the tip (mainly where it touches my teeth, it seems). These spots are red in the center and white around the edge. They start out small, then expand, leaving a red, sore center with a thin white ring on the edge. These spots expand and eventually go away, but there’s always another one somewhere on the edge of my tongue. They seem to be the worst towards the back of my mouth (always on the side of my tongue where it touches my teeth).

I have been having these for at least a few months.

I was recently diagnosed with Reflux. Can this be the cause?

    Are there other possibilities?

    Please help, thanks.
    @ july

    Thanks for your response.

I have had geographic tongue all of my life. But it has never, ever behaved like this before. I have only had “geography” on the top of my tongue. Currently, the most symptoms that I’m experiencing are on the sides of my tongue, the parts that directly come in contact to my teeth.

I work and live abroad. Unfortunately, my access to reliable medical care is less than adequate.

I have been on a great deal of anti-biotics recently… maybe I’ve developed a case of thrush.

But that wouldn’t explain why I was experiencing similar (if fewer) symptoms up to 2 months ago.

These do not fit the description of Leukoplakia, as they are red in the center with a thin white ring around the edge. The perimeter continuously expands until it just fades away.

    I’ll continue researching.

GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) doesn’t typically cause signs like you’re describing. It doesn’t mean that’s not a possible cause, but I’ve had GERD for 10+ years. It’s gotten very bad at times (enough to put me in the ER) but it hasn’t caused tongue sores.

This article http://www.medicinenet.com/tongue_problems/article.htm may be helpful. Particularly, read on the second page about geographic tongue, which can cause red patches bordered in white.

I’m assuming you’re taking medication for the GERD and if so, I am wondering if these signs appeared at the same time you started your medications.

I have occasional patches on my tongue, but they’re accompanied by cracks in the corners of my mouth and are a B-vitamin deficiency caused by stress.

It sounds as if you’ve been to at least one physician about this. Have you consulted your dentist?

Hi I have a white patch on my tongue and I am having white flem, I had unprotected oral sex for 30secs or a minute a month ago can this be a sign of HIV???

I do not really have any other signs I had one single boil on my chest and a few pimples on my forehead. Please guide me.

White phlegm is normal. A white patch on your tongue could be thrush, a fungal infection. They have swish and swallow treatments for that.

What could these white patches accompanied by white dots in the mouth be?
My mom is 46 and she got (for about 3 months) white dots on her cheeks, white creamy patches on her tongue, and a deep pocket like thing, whitish in colour in the area where the lower cheek touches the gum line in the lower jaw..Are these thrush?

    • charlie says:

It sounds like thrush. You can get medication from your pharmacy without prescription, you could try glycerin I hear that works too.

white hairy like patches on tongue, swollen taste buds, and sore throat?
The other day, I was brushing my teeth. I’ve had my tooth brush in a travel case thing since my vacation and i forgot to take it out. Anyways, the container was wet, and smelled a little funny. I rinsed off the tooth brush with hot water and thought i’d be okay. Well, lately i’ve had a really sore throat, white patches on my tongue (hairy like patches that don’t scrape off), and it looks like my taste buds may be swollen. It hurts to swollow anything and i feel sick, nauseous. Does anyone know what this coul possibly be?

    • lola says:

It sounds like you have a fungus from toothbrush being in a enclosed moist place. I would go to the doctor and get it checke d out before it gets worse. It sounds like you need some antibiotics.

White patches on the tonsils, and white tongue with red bumps at the back, what is this ?
I went to the doctor on wednesday and was told I have acute tonsilitis . He gave me amoxicillin for 10 days. I have been taking the meds regularly as told, and it is now Monday and has not dissapeared yet. Is this normal ? I had this 5 months ago too, and was given the same thing. Each time was at a different doctor. Just wondering when it will fully go away, I thought it would be gone by now. I dont have a sore throat anymore or a problem swallowing, but looking inside my mouth makes me worried. Could this be HIV ? I madeout with someone 2 weeks ago.

    • Regina says:

First of all, this is not a Dental question so go find a more appropriate place to post this.

Second, no it cannot be HIV. You cannot get HIV from making out with someone.

I had chronic tonsillitis too and I had the same symptoms as you. I had two rabbits and I was getting sick from breathing in their stink. I had to put them outside. Maybe you need to clean your room. You keep inhaling some sort of bacteria that is causing this.

my 9 week old son has white patches on his tongue, but not thrush??
i have a 9 week old son who was born with a little white patch on the tip of his tongue. i was told by the midwife that this will go away, probably just residue, but last week i noticed a much bigger one in the middle of his tongue. they are not furry, can not be scrapped away and do not change shape – they are just a white patch??? i had the health nurse check it yesterday and she didnt know what it could be, but assured me it wasnt thursh or any fungal infection, and to check it out with my gp, who will do some further tests. i couldnt get to the doctors today, but i will tomorrow, though im anxious to know if anyone has an idea of what they could be?

Geographic tongue. My niece also had that as a baby – and has continued to have it off and on through out her life. I developed it during pregnancy and still have it off and on. Sometimes it is painful, sometimes not. There is nothing to cure it, though. And it is only a minor nuisance.

It may be a sign of too much yeast in your diet. Cheese does have yeast in it. Yeast is otherwise known as candida albicans. You can Google for it.

A natural inhibitor of yeast is the acidophilus bacteria found in yogurt. If you eat yogurt regularly it may eliminate the white patches on your tongue.

Recurring painless white patches on tongue, always same place?
For the past few years now I have had these small white patches show up on my tongue, there are about three and they are different shapes… Now once they appear they are very visible and I can feel them on the tongue surface but after a few days they start to peel off, I can actually pick off this white skin and my tongue looks normal again…. Disgusting, I know. Any idea what this could be? I did bite my tongue quite badly in an injury once and though it was some sore of scarring that comes/goes? May I add that I am a cheek/lip biter – always have been, but never bite my tongue… Hope you can help! thanks

15 years old and white patches on my tongue?
hey guys, i recently discovered white patches on my tongue and 2 red bumps at the very back of my tongue. This worry me because as i have checked on the internet, it means that i might have the HIV. I am only 15 years old and has never done any sexual intercourse with anyone before. Well, as an experiment i have tried ejaculating in my mouth before just to see how it tastes. Also, i have masturbate almost everyday through my pants and when i ejaculate, i just let the semen stick on my pants until the next day to wash it. Will any of this be the cause of HIV? Do i even have HIV? What should i do?

Little soars on the back of my tongue (white furry tongue)?
Little soars on the back of my tongue (white furry tongue)
It all started 2 months ago when I started using a new mouth wash and I developed a white tongue, so I stopped using it. After 2 weeks it didn’t get away, so I went to my doctor and he did the regular tests along with the blood and urine test, but the results came out to be normal. Nothing was found.
Now its been 2 months and my white tongue is not gone in spite of salt water gargle and eating lot of curd. More over, recently it has started developing some small painful soars on the back of my tongue. My questions is:
1.Is it a cold soar/herpes on the tongue?
2.If it is a cold soar, then how long do they last?
Just to make it clear: The whole tongue is white (NOT in white patches), so I cannot even call those soars as white spots/canker soars. Also these are not because of hot burns or a spicy food or any allergic reactions or any antibiotics. Also I take “one a day -men” and eat healthy, so probably not even vitamin/mineral deficiency.
Confused for last 2 months that what the heck is this. White tongue is a sigh of compromised immune system, so I am very much worried.
    HELP NEEDED. Thanks in advance.

White patches on my tongue and red bumps at the back of my tongue going down my throat + flu symptoms?
As the title says, I have white patches on my tongue(Been awhile),

This morning, was a great morning, really happy. Went to class, was getting started on a project for English class. 30 minutes later, I started having red bumps on the back of my tongue(irritation), then I got a headache, then started getting dizzy, then nauseous, then tired and then muscle pains all over my body. The day before I -was- at camp with over 40 people and doing activities that required physical touching. And my throat is starting to constrict (It feels that way now)

Could it be the H1N1 influenza? ‘Cause that’s all I have in mind right now.

    • Rockford says:

The white patches can also be tonsillitis from mono. Look at the white patches in the link. Since you just came from camp though, I think H1N1 is very possible.

You should go to a doctor

White on tongue and bitter taste?
There’s been a white patch on my tongue for the past 3 days and I’ve also been getting a bitter taste on it. It feels rough when I move it along the roof of my mouth and it somewhat changes colors when I eat something with color. (I was eating blue sour worms earlier and the patch became blue for a bit)

I can scrape it off but I end up gagging from doing it (because of having a high gag reflex) and it comes back in a few hours.

I’m currently taking a white liquid antibiotic called “Biaxin” right now because I had a sore throat. (Sore throat is gone now but I have 7 days left of the antibiotic course) The stuff tastes nasty as is and also has a white chalky substance in it. Could that be the cause of the tongue?

If that ain’t it, anyone got an idea? I’m tasting bitter metallic potatoes!

    • Yvette C says:

It is yeast growing on your tongue. You need to see your doctor for some Nistatin. Eat some Yogurt and take Acidophilus caps. while on the antibiotic to prevent recurrence.

    white patch on tongue?
I have had a white patch on my tounge and in my mouth for at least 2 years now and the dentist wants me to have a biopsy which im having in a weeks time. I don’t smoke and never have done and im 18 and im worried its mouth cancer, but wouldnt that be very rare for me to get it. I got the patches around the time i got an eating disorder, so im thinking its something to do with vitimins maybe, i also bite my mouth? i have an overbite so when i bite it catches it.

    • docgobbler says:

From your description, this sounds like what you would call a wart. It’s probably a papilloma [non cancerous]. In any case, it’s nothing to be alarmed about and the biopsey will be easier than a filling. Good luck.

    • cowabunga mama says:

Yes, it is most likely candida, or more commonly referred to as thrush. It is a yeast infection. You often get it after a course of antibiotics because the antibiotics killl off the good bacteria as well as the bad and make you susceptible to this. There are simple tablets you suck on 4 times a day called mycelex. Your dr. can prescribe. You do not need to see a specialist if this is what it is. I’m sure there are other things it could be too.

White patches on tongue…anyone else ever got them?
Okay, so about a week ago, I was drinking tea at a friends house, and I felt something on the tip of my tongue. I thought it was just one of those white bumps you get occasionally, and told her I needed to go to the restroom as there was something on my tongue. I stuck it out to show her, and she said there were two things. I wasn’t really too surprised, so I went to the restroom and looked at my tongue, only to find that it wasn’t what I thought. Instead, at the tip of my tongue, were two white patches. They weren’t painful or anything and I was able to actually scrape it off. If I were to describe it as something…it was like I’d pulled the skin of a blister off a wound of mine and set it on my tongue. It came of really easy with some scraping and my tastebuds seemed just a tad bigger then usual…lightly swelled, so…it almost seemed like nothing, but that had never happened to me before. It really bothered me and my friend said that earlier she noticed I’d rubbed my tongue against my teeth once. Thinking about it, the two little patches were right where I would rub my tongue against my top teeth and just about as wide as them. It still really concerned me, but I let it go.

Now today, I was rubbing my tongue against my teeth again (I do it when I am…well…((self)) pleasured, heh. Only started recently though…in the last two weeks. No idea why…but there you have it)….and I noticed that it looked like my tongue was getting the patches again. Not as thick, but still there. I scraped part of one off…but went ahead and left the rest, 1 because it wasn’t as easy to get off this time, and 2, I want to see if it goes away on its own after a while. So while I’m pretty sure it’s just irritation from the rubbing (which I’ma have to knock off), I still tend to worry about my body about the tiniest thing, so I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t anything else. I’m not sexually active and have never been, so it’s not an STD or anything, and I don’t do drugs, smoking, or alcohol so I don’t think it’s like some sort of cancer or something horrible like that. None the less, I just want to make sure. So yeah. Does anyone know what I’m talking about and is it nothing?

    • Deppster says:

It could be candidiasis (oral thrush). Oral thrush causes creamy white lesions, usually on your tongue or inner cheeks. The lesions can be painful and may bleed slightly when you scrape them or brush your teeth. Sometimes oral thrush may spread to the roof of your mouth, your gums, tonsils or the back of your throat.

If you’re a healthy adult with oral thrush, you may be able to control the infection by eating unsweetened yogurt or taking acidophilus capsules or liquid. Acidophilus is available in natural food stores and many drugstores. Some brands need to be refrigerated to maintain their potency. Yogurt and acidophilus don’t destroy the fungus, but they can help restore the normal bacterial flora in your body. If this isn’t effective, your doctor may prescribe an antifungal medication.
